However, some skills dont belong on your resume, and including them could actually hurt your chances of getting chosen for an interview. When adding skills to your resume, be selective and specific. Hiring managers want to know why youre a strong candidate for the job, not everything youve been qualified to do for your whole working life. They also dont want to know about all the things you can do which have nothing to do with the job for which youre ap plying. The person who screens your resume cares about the value you can offer the company, and that means being agood fit for the job requirementsthe company lists in its help-wanted ad. Skills to Keep Off Your Resume Skills You Dont HaveThis may seem obvious, but many people fluff up their skills or put skills on their resume that they dont have. ACareerBuilder survey reports that mora than three-quarters of Human Resources managers (75 percent) have caught alie on a resume. Some of those lies include exaggerating or embellishing the qualifications the applicant has for a job. If you dont have any of the skills the employer is seeking,reconsider applyingfor the job. Dont fabricate skills or experience just to get hired. It will come back to haunt you in the long run. Imagine the awkwardness and embarrassment of getting grilled about yourqualifications during a job interview, and not being able to respond because you dont actually know enough to give a solid answer to the quest ion. Even if youre a quick learner, you may not have a good grasp of what you need to know if, by some chance, you do get the job. If an employer hires you and finds out you cant do the work, you could get fired. Obsolete SkillsIf you are, or were, a pro at working with outdated software or technology such as MS-DOS, Lotus 1-2-3, or Vista, for example, dont put it on your resume. If you know how to backup files onto a floppy disk, keep that skill to yourself. Manytechnologies have become obsolete, and knowing how to use them isnt an asset other than in rare circumstances.In fact, it might make your knowledge seem very outdated, and the employer might think youre a tech dinosaur. If you have been out of the workforce for a while, take the time to ensure you have current skills listed on your resume that employers demand and value. While long walks help you stay in shape and unclutter your mind, unless youre applying for a job that involves hiking or outdoor fitness, this does not belong on your resume. Leave off any skills you have that are not related in any way to the job. If you are applying to a number of very different jobs, consider creating a unique resume for each job type. This will help you avoid including skills that are not relevant to a position. General and Overused Skill WordsLinkedIn publishes an annuallist of buzzwords that people overuse in their profiles. Some of these words dont belong on your resume either. Before you use them, consider if theres another, more specific term that would better describe your abilities. Skills That Everyone Should Have AlreadySome of the overused buzzwords listed above are skills or traits that employers alreadyexpect job applicants to haveas a minimum requirement. Employers expect that youll be focused, have some experience (unless youre applying for an entry-level position), and will do an excellent job if they hire you. You dont need to spell out these basic assumptions on your resume for the employer. On a similar note, dont list things like Microsoft Word, email, or web searching. Employers have an expectation that everyone knows the basics required for almost every office job in todays workplace. Revise Your Resume to Highlight Your Skills While there are skills you should avoid putting on your resume, there are a number of skills you should include. Before you submit your resume to apply for a job, take the time to review and refresh your resume so that its going to give you the best opportunity to get the interview. In particular, tailor the skill words you include to match the requirements of the job. Take the Time to Decode the Job AdHow can you tell what the employer wants in a perfect applicant for the job? You can pick up a lot from the job posting, and it would help to also invest some time researching the job and the company itself to learn more details. Hereswhat to look for when youre reviewing the job ad, including how to evaluate the job title, qualifications, requirements, responsibilities, and required experience. Make a MatchNow that youve learned what the employer wants,match your qualifications to the job. Make a list of the skills in the job posting in one column. List the skills and experience you have that make you a contender for the job in the second column. In your resume, include the skills that are the closest match to what the employer is seeking. The skill words you include will act as keywords to help y our resume get selected by theATS (applicant tracking system) the employer uses to screen applications. If youre a match for the position, your qualifications andskill setshow the hiring manager that youre a viable candidate for the role. Be SpecificDont list general skills,especially if youre applying for a tech role. For example, avoid saying you have computer skills, and instead include the programming languages, hardware, software, apps, and other skills you possess that qualify you for the job. If you have certifications, be specific when you list those. For example, list QuickBooks Certified ProAdvisor, AWS Certification, SQL, iOS, or Java. You can also categorize your skills into subcategories to be more specific. For example, if you might have a subsection that lists the languages you speak, and another subsection that lists your specific computer skills. Of course, only include subsections of skills that are relevant to the job. Tailor Your Resume to the JobJob postings may seem similar, but every employer has a different set of requirements. Even when the job looks the same, each employer may be seeking something different. Its important to tailor your resume to showcase your qualifications for specific jobs. Take a few minutes totweak your resume, so it matches the position youre after.

Celestial Gearbox Celestial Gearbox Celestial GearboxLike many great discoveries, the Antikythera Mechanism welches found by accident. In 1900, sponge divers came across a shipwreck off the coast of the Greek island of Antikythera, and over the next year or so, they retrieved a number of artifacts statues, coins, jewelry, and so on. One item they brought to the surface was bedrngnis immediately recognized a lump of corroded bronze and wood, broken into several calcified fragments.The artifacts were all sent to the National Museum of Archaeology in Athens for cataloguing and restoration, but the bronze lump sat almost unnoticed. When researchers finally turned their attention to it, they couldnt agree on what it was. The bronze lump seemed to contain gears and dials, suggesting it was a navigational device or perhaps even a clock. Some archaeologists suggested that it was a mechanism too advanced for the date of the shipwreckthe first century B.C. and thought it might have been lost a t sea more recently.In time, however, analysis using X-ray and other advanced imaging revealed its true nature, and the Antikythera Mechanism is now considered as important for technology and sciences as the Acropolis for the architecture and arts. The object is the remains of the earliest known analog computer.Now we know that it was an extremely advanced mechanism that could be used to calculate and predict astronomical events. Detailed studies of the mechanism by various researchers have shown that it could predict with astonishing accuracy the position of the sun, moon, and the planets on the sky. It could also determine the phases of the moon, adjust the calendar, determine the dates of the ancient Olympic Games, and predict solar and lunar eclipses.But before researchers like myself could make that assertion with full confidence, we would have to go beyond simply observing the artifact with sophisticated imaging tools. We would have to use that data to create a working model, and test ur theories against the recreated mechanism itself.Identifying the ComponentsAlmost since the Antikythera Mechanism was first subjected to X-ray imaging, people have tried to reconstruct it. The unsolved purpose of the artifact often attracted amateurs and scientists operating outside their field of expertise. Ioannis Theofanidis, a Greek naval officer turned historical researcher, worked on the problem in the 1920s and 1930s the English physicist Derek John de Solla Price published analyses of the device beginning in 1959 Allan Bromley, an Australian historian of computing, made in 1985 a rudimentary working model and science museum curator Michael Wright built in 2005 a more complete operating model that showed the mechanism could predict eclipses. But the detail gathered through X-rays and examination of the external surfaces was relatively low, so these models were not accurate and complete.X-ray of a fragment of the Antikythera Mechanism. Image Antikythera Mechanism Re search ProjectTo get a more-detailed understanding of the interior of the device, in 2005 researchers brought in a computed tomography imagera machine for taking X-ray images through objects at incrementally changing anglesto make high-resolution three-dimensional scans of the mechanism. Using these data it was possible to dive inside the fragments and to identify all the mechanisms components. The first complete catalogue of all the components of the Antikythera Mechanism was created.That data enabled dozens of researchersmyself includeda fuller understanding of the device as it had been built. The bronze pieces were originally housed in a wooden box, measuring about 32 cm 18 cm 10 cm, not much larger than a modern laptop. All told, the analysis found that the device incorporated seven zeigergerts for taking readings, 19 shafts and axles, and at least 39 gears. The calcified fragments contain 29 identifiable gears and the existence of ten more has been inferred on account their n ecessity for calculating all the astronomical phenomena indicated in the inscriptions on the bronze plates. (Why display them if you cannot calculate them?)The whole mechanism is linked, so that when the crank was turned or a pointer was adjusted by hand, all the gears and pointers moved in concert.The axles and shafts were supported by three bronze plates, two of which were external (front and back), bearing the scientific scales and some inscriptions, as well as by a central support plate.On the front side, there were two concentric circular scales. The outer scale had 365 subdivisions and the names of the 12 Egyptian months written in Greek. The inner scale had 360 subdivisions and the names of the 12 zodiac constellations. Behind the outer scale, which was removable, there were 365 holes.Every four years the operator could detach the scale and shift it by one hole, thus taking into account leap years. Against these two scales, indicators for the sun, moon, and most probably the five planets known to the ancient Greeks moved, driven by the internal gears.A rotating spherule, adapted with a crown gear to the pointer of the Moon, displayed the phases of the Moon. The movement of the Moon is not circular but elliptical. The display of this movement, which compensates for the anomaly caused by its eccentric orbit around the Earth, was achieved by the use of two eccentric gears, the axes of which are offset by 1.1 mm. The lower gear has a pin that engages with a slot on the upper gear, forcing it thus to rotate by a pin-and-slot arrangement. The epicyclical movement of the upper gear tracked the motion of the Moon in the sky with great accuracy.The pointers of the two spiral dials on the back side of the mechanism had at one end a small vertical rectangular guiding pin that followed the gap of the spiral scales. The pin followed the spiral exactly like the tip of a record player needle. The pointers on the back side tracked eclipse cycles and the date of the Oly mpic Games.Two more plates, attached on the internal sides of the protective wooden covers of the wooden box were fully covered with inscriptions that were likely a users manual.While the computed tomographic imaging could help researchers determine the dimensions and geometry of the gears of the artefact, there was a great uncertainty in how those measurements related to the original mechanism. The fragments had spent 2,100 years at the bottom of the sea and had suffered considerable damage. As a result, projecting those measurements onto the original geometrical parameters of the gears comes with large error bars.One critical measurement for verifying the accuracy of the Antikythera Mechanismthe root and tip diameters of all gears and the teeths root anglecould only be estimated based on the X-ray analysis. To better understand the device, we would have to construct a working model.Geometrical ParametersThe gears found in the Mechanism are the first in the history of mankind resem bling the shape and philosophy of modern gears. Their triangular teeth are capable of transmitting angular motion but less so for power.Our team at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki has been analyzing these basic geometrical parameters and the dimensions of the triangular teeth, and we have developed a mathematical model to estimate their original condition. Using the gears measured data and the equations of the mathematical model as input to an advanced software program, we found a common root angle and a common module for all gears of the Antikythera Mechanism.In the plan of gears with triangular-shape teeth, the module is the ratio between the tip diameter and the number of teeth of a gear, with the formula m = d/z We could compute the geometrical parameters of all gears and construct an accurate and functional model of the Mechanism, taking into account that the values we found are within the measured tolerances of the fragments.There are other constraints on cooperating gear s with triangular-shaped teeth. The minimal axial distance of two gears with triangular teeth must be a bit longer than that found in modern gears with involute-shape teeth in order to avoid blocking. There is also a maximum axial distance where the teeth of the two gears are still in contact.A full investigation of the axial distances of the gears requires, beyond the theoretical approach mentioned earlier, a detailed investigation of the fragments of the Mechanism. Using the software package VG Studio Max to study the tomographies of the fragments, the center of each axle or shaft and the corresponding distances between them were measured. Occasionally these measurements are affected by errors due to the damage of the fragments, leading to a non-perfect alignment of the corresponding tomography section.With the aid of advanced software and using the measurements of the axial distances of the cooperating gears, the minimum and maximum permissible values of the axial distances betwe en the cooperating gears were calculated. Some have round holes, others have squares ones, and one has a pentagonal hole.The fragments tomographic data cannot give accurate information about the dimensions and the shapes of the shafts, the axles, and the supporting components due to the damage of the calcified fragments, which are corroded, deformed, and sometimes shattered after 2,100 years on the bottom of the sea. But the shape of the central holes enables us to determine which gears turned on the same axis.Two pairs of shafts, for instance, ar e concentric, which means that one of the two shafts passes through the other the two shafts rotated independently. Also there is an axis which has two eccentric cylindrical bearing points for two gears.We started to create a new model of the device via parametric design. For each part, the geometric and dimensional values were examined in a way that those parts could be changed easily without the need of redesigning the other functional elements. Through an iterative process, we developed a design of the mechanism and simulated its operation, then were able to study how all the parts and the various elements operated. When we were satisfied with the results of the design process, we finally built a physical model for testing.The hope was that we could address a still-open question about the purpose of the Mechanism Whether it was originally a teaching tool for the astronomical schools of antiquity or a calculator intended to compute exact predictions of celestial phenomena.Practica l ConfirmationOne clue to the purpose of the mechanism comes from the way the device was operated. The gears were linked so that an operator could manually rotate one pointer to the position he wanted to inputsay, moving the sun pointer to a particular day in the yearand the other indicators would turn in response. Theoretically, the operator could turn any of the pointers, but most investigators assumed that the most efficient means for setting the device involved manually adjusting either the sun pointer or the moon pointer, both located on the front plate, or a crank that worked a crown gear on the side of the mechanism that cooperated with a gear that rotated the sun pointer through the year.An analysis made by our research team at Aristotle University of Thessalonikiwhich included ourselves, John Seiradakis, Magdalini Anastasiou, Alexandros Basiakoulis, and Alexandros Tourtasconcluded that the three methods were not equal.Because both the sun and the moon pointers made a full c ircuit for each cycle they representeda year or a month, respectivelymoon pointer would make 13.368 rotations for every rotation of the sun. Or for a single turn of the moon pointer, the sun pointer would travel in an arc of just 26.9 degrees. Not only does operating the mechanism through the moon pointer allow for greater precision, but it can also be accomplished with very little torque, almost 1/14th the amount needed to move the sun pointer.Practical confirmation through our physical model confirms the theoretical conclusion it is much easier and more precise to operate the mechanism through the moon pointer or by rotating the axis the pointer is attached.Our research also uncovered a heretofore unnoticed calculation the mechanism could perform.Among the fragments pulled from the seafloor was one labeled D. In modern studies, fragment D is considered as a lone fragment, whose function had yet to be discovered. After an extensive study of fragment D, our team produced evidence th at it was part of an arrangement used to calculate the equation of timethat is, the difference between the apparent position of the Sun and its mean annual position. A realistic simulated mechanical model that uses parts found in the fragment components, a gear and a cam, has been designed. The output of the proposed arrangement is a pointer on a scale of the front plate of the Antikythera Mechanism, which reproduces the equation of time for the epoch of its construction, around 150 B.C.Taking into account these results, the mechanism now can be said to have had at least 42 gears, 21 axles and shafts, and eight pointers.One difference between our model and others is the absence of pointers indicating the position of the planets. As we noted, the names of the planets known to the ancient Greeks are found on various fragments of the Mechanism, so it made sense to model-builders to assume gearing that could simulate the position of the planets using the pin-slot gearing found elsewhere in the Antikythera Mechanism. Up to now, however, no gears or axles or any other related mechanical elements that could calculate planetary position have been discovered among the fragments of the Mechanism. We cannot rule out the possibility that such gear-systems were part of the original Mechanism, but without actual evidence for their existence, our team decided not to include them in our model.A Sophisticated InstrumentIn addition to a 11 scale model, we have also constructed a erkennbar model of the Antikythera Mechanism three times larger than the original ancient artifact (scale 31), so that during operation, one can better see the interior and observe the movements of the shafts, axles, and gears.With the help of this model we are currently studying the accuracy of the mechanisms predictions. The first test results show that it accurately predicts astronomical phenomena, which leads us to the conclusion that the Antikythera Mechanism was a scientific instrument, an analog computer, which predicted accurately astronomical phenomena, and which had only a secondary use as an educational tool.The Mechanism has been called the first computer, but that is likely not accurate. Its sophistication suggests that it was not the first of its kind, but one of a sequence that had been built for astronomical calculation. In antiquity, such calculating machines may not have been common, but its unlikely the relic found on the sea floor off Antikythera was unique.We might also ask ourselves, was astronomical calculation the only purpose that the ancient Greeks and others found for this sort of geared mechanism? Maybe some of these are phrases you like building into your business vocab, but use them with caution. If youre going to offend or annoy someone, or if theres a clearer way to say something, why not go the easy way and avoid them altogether?Our little caveat every office has different protocol. If youre buddies with your coworkers, its not so strange to talk to them about personal issues. And if youre in the thick of the consulting, tech or business world, you might feel inclined to use the lingo and play along. But the joy of language is that theres always another way to phrase something.Weve all heard it When you assume, you make an ass out of you and me. Cute. But even if the catchphrase earns your eye-roll, its a good point dont accept something to be the case without proof. For exampleI assume you finished the report? I assumed Bob would run that part of the presentation . I assume youll be working on Saturday?From a boss, assume is a passive-aggressive way to show authority. From an underling, it looks like ducking responsibility. In both cases, there are ways to make your point without making an ass out of you and me.I like these doughnuts is fair game. But avoid using like, um, sort of, basically, and other weasel words that fill dead air. They make you sound less confident and can even sort of give the impression that you basically dont know what youre, like, talking about.Or, I finally got that $10K raise, or even Ive never eaten there because its too expensive. Good rule of thumb avoid stating the amount of money you make or the pile of dough you spent on your trip to Iceland. If someone makes a lot more or a lot less than you, it could lead to awkwardness.Not everyone who works is a man, and even seemingly innocent phrases like Hey, man or Whats up, dude, when used between people who identify as men, can create an environment of exclusion. Nicknames in general can help build a anleihe of casual camaraderie - but when that bond is based on being the same sex, that means anyone who doesnt fall under the category of man or dude is excluded from the camaraderie.Most people who use these phrases arent being exclusive on purpose. But by calling out a connection based on something that other people in the office dont share, these dudes might be making it harder for women to build the connections that will get them ahead.Talk about it? Discuss it? Have a meaningful and productive dialogue about the issue and its repercussions?Heres why Grammarly doesnt like this phrase talk is not traditionally a transitive verb because it doesnt take a direct object. You can talk about something, but thats an intransitive verb with a prepositional phrase a very different category.While phrases like we can talk it out or lets tal k things through have shown the tauglichkeit for talk to take on transitive qualities, lets talk that is a step too far.If youre pointing out someone elses mistake , you seem blaming and harsh if youre talking about your own, you risk undermining your coworkers sense of your abilities.Heres how to turn it around if you messed up, find a task too tough or arent sure how to address a problem, dont start in with I cant, its hard, or I failed. Find someone to ask for help and tell them what the problem is, what youve tried so far and what you need to know or do to fix it.On the flip side, some companies love talking about failures as opportunities for learning and growth. If you work in an environment brimming with that kind of positivity, kudos. But no matter whether your company embraces the word failure or avoids it like the plague, same idea goes focus on next steps and ways to learn moving forward, not on whos to blame.In business, throw it over the wall can be translated as send it to the client. This is one of the cases where jargon gets in the way of clarity - and that can, in turn, lead to things not getting done. If you want to be understood, this is a phrase you can throw over the wall - as in, get rid of it.If your goal in the office is to think outside the kasten , why not do the same with your well-worn clichs? Theres nothing really wrong with this phrase, but its been used so many times that we dare you to find new ways to express the idea. You can keep it simple, like innovate, find unusual solutions, or even come up with creative ideas, or you can invent something totally new like think one galaxy over. Here is some of the early data from the annual NACE Student Survey.On the improvement of employment More than one-quarter (25.5 percent) of the Class of 2012 that applied for a job has one in hand, according to results of NACEs 2012 Student Survey. That is up slightly from last year at this time, when 24 percent of 2011 graduates who had applied for a job reported having accepted one. The percentage increase of 1.5 percent is not encouraging. As has been the case for years and in this economy these low results have shown that the practices students have been using to gain a job has not been effective for three quarters of the graduates. On receiving job offersAmong 2012 graduates who applied for a job, only 44.2 percent received at least one job offer. In comparison , 41.4 percent of 2011 graduates who applied for jobs received an offer. As in the increase above, the 2.8 percent increase is not very encouraging. Again, it points out the ineffectiveness of the practices followed the students to find a job. On the percentage of students who applied for a job and took the survey Slightly more than half of seniors taking part in the survey (52.1 percent) reported that they had applied for a job. Thats well below the activity reported for the Class of 2011- approximately 75 percent had applied for a job by the time of the survey- but consistent with results for the Class of 2007 through the Class of 2010, when the percent of the class applying for jobs hovered between 42 and 50 percent. This can be surmised as evidence that the graduates are lacking in any confidence about getting a job. The NACE Report information above is very telling. With 22.9 percent less applying for a job indicates that they do not believe there is a job out there for them. M any graduates lack belief they have an effective way to find a job, get noticed, get an interview, and get an offer and the job. In many discussions with job seekers, these are the prevalent opinions that exist. Considering the process the students are pursuing to find that job it becomes clear why they are not as successful, those many tried in spite of negative input and an alarming number apparently decided not to try. The practices the students learn and follow fail 3 out of 4 times because the practice is not designed for success. The practice we are talking about is, create a resume by any means, send a resume wherever you can and wait for a positive response that rarely occurs. This widespread practice was created over years of job applicants responding to employment ads and those advertising employers demanding resume submissions. It is the primary if not only means of which employers where aware to seek people the wanted to hire. Consider that there is a huge eu-agrarpoliti k or even a chasm that exists. On one side of the chasm is the effort of the students to gain an education in a field they chose and the belief that education will provide a solid foundation in a career for an employment lifetime. The school is on the same side of the chasm working diligently to provide an education to the students to achieve the same objective, employment. Embedded in the minds of nearly all students is the expectation that their educational credentials and the assistance of the educational institution is what they need to land a career opportunity after graduation. On the other side of the chasm are the skills and abilities of the students to conduct a successful job search that will provide the job they want in their chosen field. Alongside the students is the school teaching the best skills and abilities, of which they are aware to the students with the intention that their students will be successful in finding the job they want. Those are the two sides with th e chasm in between. The chasm is the result of the decades-old practice taught and used by almost everyone inside and outside of academia. The practice is to create a resume, send a resume and wait for a positive response. Sure, there have been a myriad of variations. We now have LinkedIn, Facebook and all the other social media. Video resumes and countless tips are promised to create success. Googling Job Search Training gives 874,000,000 hits. Surely, they cant all be offering ineffective training, correct? Sadly, this is not the case. Our research and investigation revealed that practically everything offered is a variation, re-labeling or re-packaging of the Get a resume-Send a resume-Hope for results broken practices. There are huge efforts to help the freshman choose the best education that matches them with their desired educational and professional path. These efforts are very helpful. At the end of their educational career however, they are still left with having to get acr oss the vast chasm between their excellent educations and finding a job. These are two separate and distinct processes. What are the consequences of this gap or chasm that exists? It is clear that many students are not able to find a job in a reasonable time-frame. Many opt to go back to school for a graduate degree thinking that by the time they are through the right job will be available. In addition, they feel their advanced degree will make them more attractive. Their logic is not poor but the reality is discouragingly different. The reality is they still are stuck with create a resume, send a resume and wait. Others will take a marginal job that may be outside of their chosen career. They simply are waiting until the job they want appears. Another consequence is that there is a class of graduates before them still seeking work and one coming after them. How did they do this in an industry that is known for a high male-to-female ratio? Hiring with gender diversity in mind is still complex, and some companies receive negative feedback for their hiring practices. Well look at the positive and negative consequences of Etsy, Pandora and Indiegogo hiring with gender diversity as a goal.EtsyAccording to Fast Company, in 2014 Etsy was able to increase its female engineers by 500 percent. It went from three female engineers on a team of 47 to 20 females on a team of 90. The company reinvented the way it recruited by making gender diversity a priority.What sparked the change was the realization that Etsys user base was 80 percent women.What plan did Etsy execute to boost female engineers? It offered $5,000 grants to Hac ker School, an engineering program in NYC and promoted the grants to women. Some criticized this action as reverse sexism, according to Forbes. Now Etsy works with with organizations such as NCWIT(National Center for Women in Technology) and B-corp to train and educate its employees and hiring managers. It also has anonymous resumes and testing to prevent bias when hiring . The CTO of Etsy said that hiring with a focus on gender diversity gives it a better choice of both male and female candidates. In The Atlantic, CTO Kellan Elliott-McCrea said The men who come into our organization who are excited about the fact that we have diversity as a goal are generally the people who are better at listening, theyre better at group learning, theyre better at collaboration, theyre better at communication.PandoraIn 2014, Pandora shared its diversity reportand highlighted one key finding about its workforce. Its 50.8 percent men and 49.2 percent women. Although they are split almost 50-50 in gen der for total employees, there is less gender diversity in leadership positions. Pandoras plan for increasing and maintaining gender diversity was hiring Lisa Lee as the diversity program manager. Lee spends 60 percent of her time with the recruiting team ensuring best practices for hiring a diverse workforce. In addition to focusing on diversity in the hiring process, there is also an internal female group called Pandora Women to provide community and mentorship. Pandora made the effort to publicly share diversity reports to keep the company accountable. According to a blog post on Culture Lab X titled How to Make the Case for geschftsleben Diversity, Lee said, The number of current listeners and potential listeners, the buying power of communities of color, and the growth potential of diverse untapped markets are benefitted by not only gender diversity but diversity in all aspects.IndiegogoIndiegogo has 45 percent women and 55 percent men, and 43 percent female and 57 percent male leadership. Indiegogo made its gender diversity a core part of its mission statement, whose goals are to support and amplify all entrepreneurial, creative and community-related endeavors. Besides recruiting, Indiegogo promotes that their platform is a better way for women founders to raise funds for their company than seeking out venture capitalists. According to Fortune, Less than 15 percent of venture-backed companies have a female founder, but Indiegogo says 47 percent of campaigns that reach their funding target are run by women. By supporting women, they attract more women to their company. The benefits for Indiegogo of having a gender diverse population is the company appears more reputable to the public because hiring practices are aligned with their mission statement. As mentioned earlier in the Etsy example, diverse companies attract better quality candidates.
